Social Media Optimization: About.Me

By

This is the beginning of a series of posts that will be covering every social media/social networking site on the web.

About.me

About.me lets you quickly build simple and visually elegant splash pages that points visitors to your content from around the web. Get started today.

What Does This Mean For You?

About.me is a site that you can customize a landing page/online business card.  Using one big picture of yourself is by far the best thing you can do when it comes to a background image for this type of site.

Look at it as an extension of LinkedIn but less business formal and more creative.  Even if the picture isn’t of you make sure it is visual stimulating.  This is your chance to make it pop!

Check out a few examples before you create your own About.me profile!

Below are the steps to complete your profile.  Make sure to keep your information up to date!

1. Name

2. Headline

The best headline you can make is your job title and which company you work for.  Make sure it highlights what your specialty is.

3. Biography

Summarize what you have done professionally and your education background.  Also highly a few of your interests and what you do on your free time.

4. Your Tags

Make sure these tags are things that are your industry/related to your industry that you have skills in. Be sure to show these tags on your page.

5. Bio Photo

I don’t have a bio photo since my background is a picture of me.  It’s cleaner looking that way but if your background isn’t a picture of you I suggest you add a photo of yourself.

6. Colors & Fonts

Colors and fonts is where you can extend your creativeness and really make this page your own.

7. Services

Connect all of your accounts you are currently signed up for.  If you have no services to add then start signing up for a few!  You can also “Add a URL” which I highly suggest you add your personal site or the current company you work for.

8. Settings

Add all of the share buttons (if anyone clicks them this is incorporated into social signals and you get free promotion!).
