Ozzie Guillen: How Is He Still In The League?
I love the game of baseball with a passion, there is no doubt about that. When drama happens with other sports I hate to see it happen but it hits home when it happens with someone affiliated with baseball. For some reason Ozzie Guillen always makes the headlines in some way every year with his “poppin’ off at the mouth” behavior. So I ask you,
Why is Ozzie Guillen still allowed in Major League Baseball?
If you don’t know what Ozzie Guillen has done recently I will briefly summarize. Guillen was quoted in a Time story saying, “I respect Fidel Castro. You know why? A lot of people have wanted to kill Fidel Castro for the last 60 years, but that [expletive] is still here.”
What kills me is that there is no reason for this man to be talking about Fidel Castro. What does Fidel Castro have to do with his day job? Nothing. He is a coach for a Major League Baseball team. The only thing I want to hear from his mouth is information that relates directly to him and his team, with actual constructive information.
I know he hasn’t done anything physically wrong, it has all been verbal, but he gives my endearing sport a bad name. How many times is this man going to make headlines with his rants?
Let’s go over another “positive” remark this man has made, shall we?
“I’m not a quitter. When I want to quit, I’ll do a lot of stupid things and make sure they fire me and get paid.”
Really Ozzie?
What kind of example are you showing our youth today with talk like that? Do you think that this role model behavior? You are a public figure with huge visibility. Why would you think that was a positive message to send to people?
Maybe Ozzie needs a visit with his mother. A little reminder of the old saying, “If you have nothing positive to say, don’t say it at all.” We aren’t perfect but I just hope that Ozzie can eventually learn from his past rants and learn when to hold back.
I won’t hold my breath.
